Sir,

 

Your article "Nuclear expansion is a pipe dream" is factually

misleading. In comparison to your required rate of construction of

50GW per year 'to make a significant difference to climate change', the

historic global rate of construction of nuclear reactors in the 1980s

was in fact 30GW per year (IAEA). The quoted figure of 3.4GW per year

was the annual rate for France alone.

 

Such a bogus comparison, copied from the Oxford Research Group's

report, is reminiscent of the worst excesses of spin doctors. We will

get to grips with the huge task of tackling climate change only by

disavowing such tactics and encouraging numeracy in energy and climate

change matters.
